Flash Gordon is a 1980 science-fiction film based on Alex Raymond’s comic strip. Directed by Mike Hodges and produced by Dino De Laurentiis, it stars Sam J. Jones, Melody Anderson, Topol, Max von Sydow, Timothy Dalton, Brian Blessed and Ornella Muti. Lorenzo Semple Jr. wrote the screenplay, adapted by Michael Allin.
The film’s deliberately theatrical style evokes earlier comic serials. Queen composed and performed much of its soundtrack, while Howard Blake supplied orchestral material.
Highlander is a 1986 fantasy film directed by Russell Mulcahy from a story by Gregory Widen. Starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart, it follows a conflict among immortal warriors across different periods.
The film subsequently developed a cult following and generated sequels and television adaptations. Queen’s songs form a distinctive part of its soundtrack, and the phrase “There can be only one” became associated with the series.
