Innuendo, Queen’s fourteenth studio album, was released in February 1991. It was the final studio album issued during Freddie Mercury’s lifetime and the band’s last album consisting entirely of newly recorded material with him. It topped album charts in several European countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

Recorded between 1989 and 1990, the album combines hard rock, complex arrangements and the psychedelic textures of I’m Going Slightly Mad. Its release followed a longer recording period than originally planned. Mercury died in November 1991, approximately ten months after the album appeared.

Queen and Malcolm Gray designed the cover. The album and single artwork drew on illustrations by the nineteenth-century French artist Grandville. A 2006 BBC poll placed Innuendo among its hundred highest-ranked albums.
