The Works, Queen’s eleventh studio album, was released in February 1984. Its arrangements combine guitar-led rock with a prominent use of electronic instruments, following the dance and funk influences of Hot Space. Freddie Mercury later described the album as important to the band’s renewed profile, particularly in Europe.

Recorded at the Record Plant and Musicland Studios between August 1983 and January 1984, the album took its title from a remark by Roger Taylor at the beginning of the sessions:
