Live Killers, released on 22 June 1979, draws on performances from the European leg of Queen’s Jazz tour between January and March of that year. Greg Brooks’s Queen Live: A Concert Documentary identifies Don’t Stop Me Now, Spread Your Wings and Brighton Rock with Bremen on 20 January; Death On Two Legs with Cologne on 1 February; and ’39, Now I’m Here and Love Of My Life with Frankfurt on 2 February. The precise sources of the remaining tracks have not been established.

The band produced the album and mixed it at Mountain Studios in Montreux. Brian May and Roger Taylor later expressed reservations about the final mix in an interview for In the Studio with Redbeard. Nevertheless, the release reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and number sixteen on the US Billboard 200. Elektra subsequently issued an edited version in some territories under the title Queen Live.
