Greatest Hits was released in the United Kingdom on 26 October 1981. It brings together Queen singles from Seven Seas of Rhye to Flash; some regional editions also include Under Pressure. Track selections and sleeve designs differed by territory, reflecting local release histories and chart performance.
The compilation reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and became one of Queen’s most commercially successful releases. Its continuing sales and subsequent reissues have made it a central part of the band’s catalogue.
No commercial single was issued specifically from this LP, although promotional seven-inch editions were distributed to radio stations and for related publicity.
